This impressive Church can be found on a slight hill in Gamla Stan, up a winding street lined with tall historic terraced buildings. The houses seem a little forbidding, and tower over you as you walk up, but the Church welcomes you at the end. The church although commonly know as Storkyrkan (large church) is also know as Sankt Nikolai kyrka. It dates back to 1279 and has been used for several Royal Weddings and Funerals, being situated close to the Palace.
I pictured this in summertime, just after lunchtime, with some birds sweeping across the sky close to the bell tower. The street itself quiet and a bit sleepy waiting for afternoon visitors to descend. I wanted to use a strong blue for the sky to contrast with the bell tower then use earthy colours for the houses and cobbles to give warmth.
